Tuesday, September 15, is International Dot Day! We will be celebrating creativity, courage, and the importance of making your mark.
Dot Day is inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ wonderful book The Dot. The story is about a young girl named Vashti who believes she can’t draw. Her art teacher encourages her to simply “make a mark and see where it takes you.” Vashti makes a single dot on her paper and signs it. From that one small mark, she begins to discover her creativity and confidence, eventually creating all kinds of dot artwork.
The story reminds us that sometimes the hardest part is simply being brave enough to start. It encourages children to be proud of who they are, try something new, and discover where their own creativity can take them.
📚 In Library, students will be reading The Dot and participating in fun dot-themed activities.
🎨 In Art, students will be creating their own dot artwork and exploring different ways to make their mark.
👕 Wear Your Dots! We are inviting students to wear dots or polka dots on Tuesday as we celebrate together!
